Six teams started on Monday competing for the St Daniel Comboni Football Cup in Juba.
Organizing Committee leader Jorge Rodr√≠guez told CRN that St Daniel Comboni Cup marks the tenth anniversary of the canonization of Sudan and South Sudan’s father of faith.
The football competition follows a week of animation in some secondary schools and the Catholic University in Juba.
The Comboni brother from Mexico added that the cup aims at uniting senior students under St Daniel Comboni.
Brother Jorge said six teams are contesting the cup: Catholic University, Chinese Friendship and Nile Model form group A and Juba Technical, Comboni and Juba Commercial in Group B.
The group phase started on Monday and ends on Saturday.
The games are played at Comboni Secondary School at 4:30 PM daily.
Brother Jorge explained that after the groups phase is concluded, the winner of Group A will play the runner-up of Group B and the winner of Group B will play the runner-up of Group A to find the two finalists.
St Daniel Comboni Football Cup final should be played at Juba Stadium on November 10.
Brother Jorge said the best player and the best scorer will be awarded a Bible and a pair of playing boots.
The winner team takes home the St Daniel Comboni Football trophy.
