The United Nations Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS strongly condemned Sunday’s deadly attacks in Jonglei State that killed over 40 people and wounded many more in Twic East County.
UNMISS said the attacks took place at Paliau cattle camp in Ajong Payam, Maar cattle camp in Pakeer Payam and another two locations.
On Sunday, the UN flew 31 seriously wounded people to Bor and Juba hospitals for treatment.
The Mission carried out air surveillance to determine the scale of the attacks.
UN police and other staff were sent to the area to ‘investigate the attacks, ascertain the identity of the attackers, and determine the accurate number of casualties.’
Twic East County Commissioner Dau Akoi Jurkuc told AFP that 78 were killed, 87 wounded, 14 are missing and 24 were abducted – many of them children.
