A group of police on Monday morning was temporarily deployed at Lakes State Parliament compound without knowledge of MPs.

The deployment of police came amidst a growing rift between Speaker John Marik Makur and 34 MPs fighting to remove him from his seat.

MP Chol Kuotwel told Good News Radio that armed police were at the Parliament compound for one hour and left.

He said he did not know why the police came to the Assembly but expressed doubt that somebody wanted to create tensions in the Parliament.

MP Kuotwel said the work at the Assembly stopped as Speaker Marik failed to conduct a leadership meeting that has a motion to unseat him.

The MP urged the public to keep distance from internal wrangles among MPs arguing that the issue does not interfere with Lake State security.
