South Sudan National Prison Service is preparing plans to boost agricultural production in the country by using inmates in state farms.
Director General Abel Makoi Wol said South Sudan is gifted with arable land which is good for agricultural activities, Bakhita Radio reported.
He said the country will have to adapt the American system of intensive farming.
The officer added that the Prison Service will have to team up with the national government to teach inmates how to till the land in order to feed themselves and the nation.
Mr Makoi said South Sudan needs to beef up agriculture production in order to feed the entire population.
He said there is need to open farms for inmates in every state.
Mr Makoi added that with the little experience the officers gained from America, they are able to establish the agricultural farms in the country.]
A delegation of South Sudan Prison Service officers went to America to learn how to boost the agricultural sector.
