Sudan threatened to expel the peacekeeping mission deployed in restive Darfur accusing it of bringing insecurity to the area.
The threat comes days after three Senegalese – who integrated the United Nations-African Union Mission in Darfur or UNAMID – were killed in an ambush near El Geneina, in West Darfur, bringing to 168 the number of fatalities in the mission.
Sudanese armed forces battled the unidentified attackers, killed two of them but lost four soldiers in the fight, Kenyan Daily Nation website reported.
East Darfur State Governor Abdel Hamid Musa Akasha told the press that UNAMID failed to protect itself and has no capacity to bring peace in the region.
He added that UNAMID is one of the main sources to supply rebels by logistic needs and weapons because the peacekeepers are very easy targets to loot.
Mr Hamid urged UNAMID to provide the armed forces with big and heavy weapons for the government to be able to stabilize Darfur and provide security to the people.
