National Legislature passes 2013-2014 budget

The National Legislature on Saturday passed 2013-2014 budget together with the appropriation bill to control revenue and expenditures from consolidated fund.
 
Economy and Finance Committee deputy chairperson James Reat Goony said the budget was increased from 17.3 billion to 18.6 billion South Sudanese Pounds.
 
He said the Parliament directed the Bank of South Sudan to credit 1.92 billion Sudanese Pounds left after independence as National Reserve.
 
Minority leader Onyoti Adigo appealed to the government to prioritize between constructing roads and airports in the country.
 
He said the money intended for airports construction should be used for asphalting roads to benefit many citizens.
 
The Assembly also allocated three million pounds to the Anti-Corruption Commission and five millions to the National Audit Chamber.
 
It also directed the Finance ministry to reinstate university Academic staff allowances beginning with effect from October.
