Bahr El Ghazal University or UBG academic staff announced going on strike on Monday over allowances cut and salaries increment.
The Staff Association chairperson Makur Makuac Chinor told Voice of Hope that the reasons behind the strike include demands for staff salaries increment and allowances reinstatement.
Dr Makur clarified that the teaching staff, who were frustrated due to low pay since 2012, will remain in their working places without doing any activity.
The Staff Association chairperson said they will continue with the strike until the higher authority resolve their problem.
He said the staff gave a condition that either the government give them their arrears of allowances or their salaries are increased and they wait for arreas in January.
Dr Makur questioned why teachers are neglected and yet they play a big role for the nation in training cadres in all fields.
The chairperson urged all students and other workers in the university not to be part of the strike.
The strike was organized by UBG Academic Staff Association joining their colleagues in the other public Universities in South Sudan.
