The United States Government provided 200 thousand dollars for emergency assistance to flood victims of Northern and Western Bahr El Ghazal, Lakes, Warrap and Unity states.

In a statement the US Embassy said the contribution was an addition to the 60 million dollars its Government provided early this year for humanitarian assistance in the country including Abyei area.

The statement said the US Government will continue to evaluate the situation and look at other ways to offer support.

The USAID’s Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance or OFDA on September 15 provided 65 thousand dollars to a local NGO for emergency latrines, bathing shelters and hygiene promotion to benefit about 7,800 flood-affected IDPs in Aweil North, Northern Bahr El Ghazal.

President Salva Kiir earlier announced setting aside seven million South Sudanese Pounds to rescue the situation and appealed to partners to give a helping hand.
