All prayer centers and chapels within the 19 parishes of Tombura-Yambio Diocese on Sunday celebrated International Catechist Day.
The Churches opened boxes for Christians to offer gifts to catechists in kind or cash, Anisa Radio reported.
Head of Catechist Richard Gbiaundore said more than 500 catechists working across the diocese comprising females and males have no salary or any donation to care for their families and face transport difficulties during their evangelization.
He asked the entire Christian community to support their catechists.
Mr Gbiaundore explained that catechists are prime teachers of Catechism and help priests in evangelization.
Bishop Edward Hiiboro Kusala designated September 29 as a commemoration day for all catechists in the diocese.
