Handicap International condemns stigmatizing disabled people

Handicap International Project Officer on Thursday condemned the practice of the stigma shown by some people against people with disabilities.
 
Alia Betty Noah urged South Sudanese to stop stigmatizing people with disabilities in various communities, Easter Radio reported.
 
She called on the people to cooperate with the organization to raise awareness to curb some challenges facing people with disabilities.
 
Ms Betty called for equal treatment and respect of rights of disabled people.
 
Ms Betty added that Handicap would assess Yei River County to find out difficulties facing people with disability.
 
She explained that they discovered that persons with disabilities are isolated from communities and denied some rights including education and discriminated against in occasions.
 
Ms Betty noted that the negligence to involve people with disabilities in occasions could be due to  community lack of awareness.
 
Ms Betty was speaking in a one-day training that brought together participants from the state government, NGOs, community based organizations and Boda-boda Association.
