A coffin of a dead suspect was kept since 2011 at Pageri police post, Magwi County in Eastern Equatoria state.
Sergeant Major Obuu Richard, an officer at the Pageri outpost told the press that the late Lagu Patrick was first arrested on allegation of kidnapping a three-year-old baby girl, Emmanuel Radio reported.
The officer said the late held the girl hostage at his home.
He explained that three weeks later, the late Lagu hit a police officer who escorted him for a call and attempted to escape but died in the bush.
Obuu said the body of the late Lagu was found in January 2011 but the relatives have since refused it to be buried.
He explained that Mr Ben Kator, an uncle to the deceased who stays in Juba rejected the burial of the dead suspect, saying he wants police to account for his death.
The police also filed another case on January 3, 2011 against the dead person on escape from police custody.
Pageri Boma Chief Mawa Patrick called on police and relatives to speed up the process of removing the coffin of the suspect for burial.
He said the smell of the remains affected residents of the area.
