Authorities in Yei River County arrested illegal timber operators and confiscated their nine illegal sawing machines.
Yei Forest Assistant Commissioner Alfred Kennedy Swaka revealed that the chain saws were apprehended to implement the state’s policy of preserving environment, Easter Radio reported.
He threatened to confiscate chain saw machine of illegal operators and fine the owners.
Kennedy called on timber dealers and tree growers to design programs for tree plantation to mitigate environmental degradation.
Early last year Central Equatoria State Government banned illegal operation of chain saw machines in reserve forest plantations.
