National Legislative Assembly deputy speaker warned Western Bahr El Ghazal security organs against civilians’ torture and arbitrary detention.
Mark Nyipuoch Ubang who is also SPLM state chairperson, on Wednesday told security organs to stop torturing citizens and let them freely express their opinions, Voice of Hope reported.
He reminded security personnel that censorship was one of the social evils the SPLM fought for in the liberation struggle.
The deputy speaker said if citizens were tortured and arbitrary detained, they would not give any information that could be helpful for the security.
Mr Ubang said the security should not be a threat to civilians but source of protection and safety.
He advised the state legislature to oversee the executive and that the two should function together for equitable service delivery.
Mr Ubang told state authorities to fight nepotism, tribalism and corruption to realize development.
