Budi County in Eastern Equatoria State was hit hard by hunger after residents ran short of food due to poor harvest resulting from unreliable rains this year.
In Nahichod area, a traditional bread basket of Budi County that supplied Chukudum market with produce, residents are selling out animals to buy food, Emmanuel Radio reported.
Several hunger victims expressed concerned on the worsening situation they face in the County.
South Sudan Reintegration and Rehabilitation Commission Secretary Margaret Nakong Beato confirmed existence of hunger in the county.
She said people are fleeing ftheir areas that used to be bread baskets of the county to Chukudum town in search of food.
Ms Nakong said her office reported the case to state authorities but that there was logistics problem to transport food to hunger affected areas.
Sacred Heart Chukudum Parish Priest Dario Arite called for quick intervention of governments and relevant institutions including the Church.
Budi County fell short of food due to unreliable rainfalls and drought.
Over one thousand people in Kimotong Payam were reportedly abandoned their homes and fled to urban areas due to food shortages.
