A delegation of eleven African first ladies on Tuesday visited Juba and delivered about 20 tonnes of relief items to people affected by tribal conflicts.
African first ladies’ peace mission representative who is the state minister for Federal Capital territory in Nigeria Oloye Olajumoke Akinjide said the mission was mandated to support conflict prevention and management.
She said the mission also assists in keeping and building peace in Africa through various means.
South Sudan’s first lady representative Priscilla Joseph Kuch told the press that the delegation presented milk, rice, cooking oil and salt.
African first ladies’ mission was headed by Patience Good Luck Jonathan, the wife of the Nigerian President Good Luck Jonathan.
Her visit to Juba was disrupted by the sudden death of her mother in Nigeria.
Mary Ayen Mayardit sent a message of condolence to her through the delegation that paid three hours’ visit to Juba.
