A Community-based organization or CBO in Yei County on Friday organized a public debate on women’s role in building peace in the society.

Minyori Agency for Transformation and Development or MATD Project Officer Malish Steven Cosmas said the workshop aimed to promote equality between women and men participation.

He added that the workshop also aimed to strengthen and raise women confidence in peace building.

Mr Steven said most women shy from participating due to lack of confidence, personal commitments and fear of responsibility.

One of the participants Keji Suzy called on women to be role models in the family and the society to bring up children in a moral way and contribute to nation building.

She added that women are positive contributors in different activities including leadership.

Ms Keji refuted the claim that women shy from responsibilities and that women can do what men can also do.

She urged fellow women to have courage and refrain from inferiority in the community.

The debate drew together students from Yei Public, Excel Academy, Yei Girls Boarding and Yei Day Senior Secondary Schools.
