South Sudan and Ugandan Police forces agreed to start joint patrols along the common borders to crack down on crime.
Eastern Equator State Police Commissioner Henry Danima told the press in Torit that the two countries greed to form joint patrols of Criminal Investigation Departments or CID and border police, Emmanuel Radio reported.He said South Sudan Inspector General of Police Pieng Deng Kuol and his Ugandan counterpart Kale Kayihura signed the joint border patrol deals last week.
Major General Danima said security commanders would communicate frequently among themselves in case of any threat so that the matter is resolved peacefully.
The State Police Chief said the routine joint security in Arua District of Uganda followed a memorandum of understanding to maintain security along the shared borders.
He said the meeting handled issues related to crimes and treatment of citizens of both countries.
Major General Danima disclosed that the border areas were divided into three sectors for joint security patrolling.
He explained that Western Sector starts from Kaya to Kajo Keji, Central sector goes from Nimule to Tseretenya and the Eastern sector is between Tseretenya and Budi-Ikwoto counties.
Eastern Equatoria State Deputy Secretary-General Joseph Abulemoi praised the joint border security meeting.
