Wau Midwifery School in Western Bahr el-Ghazal officially reopened on Tuesday after a seven-year closure.
The school is a government institution aimed at training young people as midwives to assist deliveries, Voice of Hope reported.State Health Minister Isaac Cleto Hassan said the school will help reduce maternal mortality rates.
Dr Cleto said the state is ready to train many health students to help delivering medical services to communities.
He said English language is the main problem reducing the number of people able to help the community.
Dr Cleto urged parents to send their children to health schools to help the community resolve health problems.
State Advisor on Essential Services Livio Gelego Bahara asked midwifery students to be committed to work in health centres for the sake of supporting mothers with complications during child birth.
He urged the future midwives to be ready to serve their fellow citizens everywhere they may be deployed.
International Medical Corps or IMC supported the reopening of Wau Midwifery School which was closed in 2005.
