South Sudan will conduct reconciliation prayers ahead of the second independence anniversary.

National Healing, Peace And Reconciliation Committee deputy chairman Bishop Paride Taban told Easter Radio that the prayers are aimed at healing trauma and guide the people of the country.

The Muslim community will pray on July 5, Christians on July 6 and national day of prayers will be held on July 8.

Bishop Taban said the prayer is to guide people for good governance.

The Catholic prelate pointed out that a lot of bad things happened in the past including killings.

Bishop Taban said the prayer day was meant to ask pardon from God.

He urged people to recognize their sins and repent before the independence celebrations.

Bishop Paride revealed that the committee lacks funds but people of good will are giving support for the process.

He said the Committee for National Healing, Peace and Reconciliation will visit each state.

Bishop Taban urged all churches to hold three days of fasting before July 8.

He was speaking on Tuesday in Yei while visiting the diocese.
