Western Equatoria Legislative Assembly on Tuesday passed with amendments the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the government and the Chinese Company Wu Yi Lt. to develop a road network in the state.

Services Committee Chairperson in the assembly Margaret Fauzia presented a report to the House with observations and recommendations from the state Physical Infrastructure Minister, Anisa Radio reported.

The Members of Parliaments requested the Minister to elaborate on how the loan of about 200 million US dollars shall be paid back and why to include airstrips leaving out some feeder roads in the counties.

Minister Clement Mbugoniwia explained that it was a long term loan that would be refunded through road taxations and other taxes from agricultural produces.

He added that the state government will cater for the feeder roads while the national government is responsible for Takpari-Yambio-Ezo roads.

Mr Mbugoniwia said the proposed money was not enough but good to start with.

Speaker Bage James Elisa on Tuesday chaired the sitting.
