NATIONAL CABINET PASSES 17.3 BILLION BUDGET

The national Council of Ministers passed a budget of 17.3 billion South Sudanese Pounds on Monday’s extraordinary seating that lasted for eight hours.

Government spokesperson Barnaba Marial Benjamin told the press that from July to December the budget will run under the austerity measures and the Government will have 3.5 billion pounds from loans, non-oil revenue and grants to spend.

From January to June the Government will run in a full budget that includes oil money.

Dr Marial said roads, agriculture, infrastructure, education, health and social services were the priorities for the 2013-2014 national budget.

He added that the budget includes 98.8 million USD dollars for local governance, a loan from the International Development Association to be paid within 30 years.

Dr Marial said in the new fiscal budget also provides 150 million US dollars from a Chinese loan for Juba International Airport.

The ministry of finance is to forward the budget to the National Legislative Assembly for discussion after introducing some amendments approved by the Cabinet.

President Salva Kiir Mayardit chaired the extraordinary seating the Council of Ministers.
