Schools in Western Bahr el Ghazal state celebrated School Open Day on Thursday at Wau Youth Centre.

The celebration, under the theme “Education is the responsibility of all,” was organized by the state ministry of education in collaboration with Creative Associates International, Voice of Hope reported.

Wau Mayor Michael Gebat cited English language as one of the challenges facing children in the municipality.

He described language as what makes citizens to be left behind during white collar jobs competitions.

Mr Gebat warned young people against practising bad activities such as living on streets or forming gangs called niggers.

The Mayor advised the youth to go to school and look for good ways to earn their living.

State Advisor Livio Gelego Bahara said education was not just about learning how to read but an important tool for learning new techniques to improve life.

He encouraged parents to take care of their children by sending them to school and to contribute to their education at home.

Mr Galego warned parents that failed to send their children to school at the required age would face the law.
