The Council of Ministers dedicated its ordinary Friday seating to discuss at length the current oil crisis and decided to send a delegation headed by the Vice President to Khartoum to keep dialogue channels open.

Government spokesperson Barnaba Marial Benjamin told the press that the ministers discussed during five hours the oil crisis and decided to maintain a “continuous dialogue” with Khartoum while using other mediation channels.

Dr Marial said the Council of Ministers decided to send a ministerial delegation to Khartoum headed by Vice President Riek Machar Teny “to keep direct communication.”

He added that the delegation will discuss with Sudanese Vice President Osman Mohammad Taha oil, cooperation, security and other issues facing implementation problems.

Dr Marial said the delegation could fly to Khartoum as soon as contacts were made and the Government of Sudan gave the go-ahead.

Asked by CRN who were the ministers and technocrats appointed to accompany Dr Machar, the Government spokesperson said it was up to the President and Vice President to choose them.

Dr Marial said South Sudan and Sudan should sort out their differences through the mechanisms fixed in the cooperation agreement.

President Salva Kiir chaired the Council of Ministers.

On Monday, the cabinet holds an extraordinary seating to approve the 2013-2014 budget.
