World Food Programme or WFP paid money to Yambio and Nzara farmers after it took their maize since February this year.
Tombura-Yambio Catholic Diocese Sustainable Livelihood Programme or SLP Manager Samuel Simon Zigizo said WFP collected 18 metric tons of maize buying one bag at 75 Pounds.He said WFP collected maize from farmers of Kasia and Gangura in Yambio County and Bakpara in Nzara County since February 2013.
Mr. Zigizo said the money was sent last week and payment started on Friday in Kasia and that Gangura and Makpara would be paid on Tuesday and Wednesday.
He encouraged all farmers to continue working hard and produce more food for consumption and surplus for the market.
WFP and farmers exchange was a piloting project under Purchase for Progress programme between WFP and Sustainable Livelihood Programme.
