Citizens in Western Bahr El Ghazal concluded a three-day constitutional dialogue with a call for elections of commissioners all over South Sudan.

Edmond Yakane, Director for Community Empowerment for Progress Organization or CEPO, said participants advocated for a parliamentarian system under the federal government in South Sudan, Voice of Hope reported.

He said they strongly urged for the implementation of the Local Government Act 2009.

Mr Yakane said the citizens wanted the president’s powers reduced and marital age fixed in the Constitution.

Mr Yakane said the citizens also called for affirmative action for women to remain at 25 percent while others demanded for an increase based on their qualification.

He explained that citizens stressed that the national Constitutional Review Commission has to organize such dialogues at the grassroots levels.

The citizens’ dialogue was an initiative of joint civil society organizations with the help of other partners.

The dialogue brought together about 200 citizens from three counties of Western Bahr El Ghazal.
