Western Equatoria State Legislative Assembly on Tuesday passed the Land Administration and Management Regulation Bill 2013 with amendment in its second reading.

The Committee for Land, Agriculture, Environment and Natural Resources in the state legislative Assembly presented the bill, Radio Anisa reported.

The Assembly debated on three key issues in the bill including community, grazing and land administration in the state.

Ukele Eddy, who chairs the Land Committee, said the land of Western Equatoria should be entitled for agriculture and the communities concerned should be the indigenous people.

The MPs expressed strong concerns over land administration in counties and payams.

They debated that the chairperson should be the commissioner as stipulated in the national Land Act 2009; others proposed the executive director or the local chief to chair the committee.

The MPs reiterated that the land administration should not be politicized.

The Assembly appreciated the work presented by the state minister for Physical Infrastructure, Clement Juma Mbugoniwia.

The Assembly after long debate passed the bill to the third reading to incorporate the amendments.

The deputy speaker Hannah Lona Bona chaired the sitting.
