Lawmakers discussed the amendments and recommendations presented by the specialized committee on the Broadcasting Corporation Bill 2012 and passed the bill to its third reading.
The Chairperson of the Information Committee, Joy Kwaje, introduced the work done by the committee after the first reading of the Broadcasting Corporation Bill 2012 together with a number of amendments and recommendations.She recalled that the bill is intended to improve public broadcasting and guarantee its independence to informed, educate and entertain the public in South Sudan.
Among the recommendations, the legislators want the Assembly to approve the appointment of the members of the Board.
The bill said the nine members of the Board were appointed by the President on the recommendation of the minister.
Many MPs underlined that the Broadcasting Corporation Bill was a very important tool.
SPLM chief whip Atem Garang said the law will establish the Board that will put some order into SSTV and Radio and strengthen their service.
After a lengthy discussion, MPs passed the bill with recommendations and observations for the third reading.
The deputy speaker Daniel Awet Akot chaired the session.
