The army said deserters from the Wildlife Services were responsible for the looting that took place in Pibor, Jonglei State, over the weekend and accused NGOs of defaming the military.

SPLA spokesperson Phillip Aguer Panyang told CRN over the phone that the army command in Pibor denied that soldiers were involved in the looting.

He added that the army chiefs in Juba ordered a joint probe on the looting incidents, done by the army, affected NGOs and the Pibor civil administration.

Colonel Aguer said the affected NGOs should present their reports directly to the SPLA instead of using the media and defaming the army.

He said the soldiers are getting their food and salaries.

Colonel AguerÊ insisted that the affected NGOs should take part in the joint investigation.
