CABINET ENDORSES TELECOMMUNICATION OPERATOR, FULA 2 HYDROPOWER DAM

The Council of Ministers in its Friday ordinary sitting approved the establishment of a national telecommunication operator and the construction Fula Two hydro-electric project.

Government spokesperson Barnaba Marial Benjamin told the press after the meeting that the national telecommunication operator will coordinate communications in the country.

He explained that the Fula Two hydroelectric project will be the biggest power source in the country capable of generating up to 859 megawatts of electricity.

The spokesman said the Electricity and Dams Minister David Deng Athorbei got the green light to implement the project.

Dr Marial said the Council also passed the establishment of the Refugees Commission Affairs, and its organizational structure and logo.

The Cabinet gave the Refugees Commission three million Pounds to start working.

South Sudan is hosting over 200,000 refugees from Sudan, DR Congo, Central African Republic, Ethiopia and Uganda.

Dr Marial said the Governors of Western Bahr El Ghazal, Warrap and Upper Nile, Riziq Zachariah Hassan, Nyandeng Malek and Simon Kun, briefed the Council of Minister on the security situation in their states.

President Salva Kiir chaired the meeting.
