Western Bahr El Ghazal state Members of Parliament expressed appreciation and gratitude to pregnant women as they celebrated World Midwifery Day.
Two MPs from the state Assembly Thursday morning joined pregnant women at Lokoloko Maternal Health Unit to encourage them on the importance of visiting a health centre during labour, Voice of Hope reported.MP Viola Alexander Umeli, who is the State Assembly Information Chairperson, said though the state has never officially celebrated Midwifery Day she felt concerned to share the day with pregnant women at Lokoloko.
She donated bed sheets and other items to the maternity.
MP Deng Thomas acknowledged the importance of pregnant women to get maternal health care.
Lokoloko Maternal Health Centre Directress Rabha Elias said insecurity was the major challenge which should be addressed by the state government especially during night time.
She noted that nurses face threats from patients who seek treatment not related to pregnancy.
