AID AGENCIES LEAVE BOMA DUE TO INSECURITY

Aid agencies have temporarily relocated their staff from Boma in Jonglei State days before rebels took the town from the army.

The relocation is having a serious impact on the availability of health services in the area and half the surgical capacity in Jonglei State has been lost due to insecurity since mid-March, health agencies said.

In Pibor, health partners are over-stretched as displaced civilians, including children, have started to return to the town.

Some have old gunshot wounds and have to be evacuated for surgery, indicating that people have been in the bush, unable to access life-saving services.

UHOCHA says fighting in Maruwa Hills between the army and rebels, which started on April 28, caused people there to flee their homes and deteriorated humanitarian access in Jonglei.
