An international humanitarian agency marked its international day by building a new shelter for an 86-year old widow in Ilangi Boma of Eastern Equatoria.
Red Cross volunteers wanted to spare Perina Lohide from the scorching sun and cold nights, Radio Emmanuel reported.Mama Perina, who hails from Lirya Payam of Central Equatoria, lives in a dilapidated makeshift hut since the death of her husband in 2003 in Ilangi, near Torit.
She has three daughters and11 grandchildren but only a 19-year old granddaughter is helping her.
Red Cross Torit Branch Director Philip Marcelo Subek Loku said he was informed of Mama Perina’s situation by a friend who works at state health ministry.
He added that the Red Cross will offer her a blanket, mattresses, mosquito net and cooking tools to address her needs.
Eastern Equatoria Red Cross volunteers constructed three huts from three vulnerable people in Hai Askal, Torit, and assisted over 2,000 returnees with non-food items.
