RAIDERS ATTACK LIRYA PAYAM, ABDUCT CHILD

Raiders attacked Lirya Payam of Central Equatoria State and injured one woman and abducted a12-year old boy.

Lokoya community leader Christopher Sebit told Bakhita Radio that a group of Murle raiders attacked the village on Tuesday morning, shot a woman working in a field and abducted her child.

He said the youths of Lirya chased the attackers but lost them in the bush.

The official added that the woman was rushed to Juba Teaching Hospital for a surgical intervention and she is recovering.

Mr Sebit said child abduction in Lirya in ongoing since the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement eight years ago.

He said many children from Lokoya and Lolubo were abducted.

Mr Sebit urged the government to deploy more forces during the rainy season in Lirya, Langabu, Lyangari, Ngulere, Lelere and Lokiliri villages.

He explained that child abductors hide in tall grass.

Mr Sebit urged the Lokoya intellectuals to address the issue of child abduction and make the government intervene.

He said the Lokoya community needed to dialogue with the Murle people to iron out issues of child abduction for peace and security to prevail.
