A senior journalist said there is no freedom of expression in South Sudan.

Juba Monitor editor-in-chief Alfred Taban told CRN on Monday that the newspaper only allowed the Bul community of Mayom County to express its anger over the death of a young member and it was no crime.

He said the police detained two people for the same issue: him and his editor Michael Koma, and it was not correct.

Mr Taban said the police did not find any mistake with the newspaper because the Juba Monitor exercised its right to give people a chance to express their opinion.

He added that the paper cannot censor anyone and for that reason it published the statement of the Bul community on April 13.

The Bul community accused the deputy interior minister Salva Mathok Gengdit to be involved in the slaughter of a Traffic Police officer last month.
