The killing of Abyei’s paramount chief has brought high tension, shock and displacement to the region.

Abyei Parish Priest Biong Kuol Deng told CRN over the phone that he was on Sunday in town and saw many people moving out with their belongings due to insecurity and fear.

Fr Biong said that slain paramount chief Kuol Deng Kuol was buried on Monday and a new leader was chosen after the funeral.

He added that he talked to people and encouraged them to stand firm to face difficulties.

Fr Biong noted that here were problems of communication with UNISFA, the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei, because very few Ethiopian peacekeepers speak English.

He said UNISFA is siding more with Misseriya.

Fr Biong charged that Sudanese spies have infiltrated UNISFA but the peacekeepers are not listening to the protests from Abyei leaders.

He added that UNISFA is committing a crime against the people of Abyei.

Fr Biong said there is total chaos in the issue of Abyei from both South Sudan and Sudan.

He noted that the Referendum Commission should be in place since March 15 but nothing happened.

Fr Biong said a joint administration did not work in the past and will not work in the future.

He added that the international community is neglecting the people of Abyei.
