A representative of the Abyei Area in the National Legislative Assembly said on Monday that the Ngok Dinka rejected the formation of a joint administration in the area and called for the formation of the Abyei Referendum Commission.

MP Arop Madut Arop told CRN that the Khartoum government is boycotting the establishment of the Referendum Commission but wants a joint administration for the Arab Misseriya nomads to settle in Abyei.

He said the Ngok Dinka rejected the idea of a joint administration.

The Abyei MP called the government of South Sudan and its parliament to ask for the transfer of the Abyei issue from the African Union to the United Nations.

Mr Madut said the UN should be engaged to pressure the Sudanese government.

He blamed the African Union for not pressing for the implementation of the proposals they made on Abyei.

MP Arop Madut Arop was speaking to CRN in Juba.
