CABINET APPROVES IGAD DISASTER RESPONSE FUND

The Council of Ministers on its Friday ordinary meeting approved the draft policy of Inter-Governmental Authority on Development or IGAD Disaster Response Fund to the tune of almost 124 thousand US dollars.

Government spokesperson Barnaba Marial Benjamin told the press that the amount is South Sudan’s contribution to IGAD’s fund.

He explained that the Cabinet asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to pay an amount of almost 687 thousand US Dollars as South Sudan’s IGAD membership fee.

Dr Marial said the Cabinet also approved the change of the name of Ministry of Environment to be called the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development.

He said the Council also endorsed the revised structure of the ministry to conform to with the new sustainable international environmental development.

Dr Marial said the Council also approved the new logo of the ministry which represents South Sudan’s consciousness in protecting its environment by developing policies that respect global sustainable development.

President Salva Kiir chaired the cabinet meeting.
