The director for malaria control in Western Bahr E Ghazal state called on the population to use tablets instead of injections to treat Malaria at initial stages.

Abdelgadir Mudwok Acwil cautioned against the use of Arthemitre injections as the main treatment for malaria, Voice of Hope reported.

The director encouraged people who tested positive for malaria to take Artisonate and Amodoquine tablets that are the recommended drugs for initial treatment in South Sudan.

Mr Mudwok said most patients in the state preferred injections citing the side effects of tablets.

He advised patients taking drugs during treatment to drink enough sweet liquids to minimize the side effects.

Mr. Mudwok noted that getting used to injections will make tablets less effective to treat malaria.

Due to logistical hurdles, this year the Western Bahr El Ghazal state did not celebrate Malaria Day on Thursday.
