Over 130 candidates in Torit, Eastern Equatoria state are continuing with their South Sudan Secondary School Certificate examinations amidst numerous challenges.
Chief invigilator at Torit Day Secondary School, Emmanuel Justin told the press that the first examination papers that were sent to Torit disappeared on Saturday road attack.The examination papers disappeared after national ministry of education official signed to take the papers to Torit, died in the road attack.
Mr. Justin explained that another set of examination papers were transported from Juba on Sunday to replace those lost in the road ambush.
The chief invigilator disclosed that candidates were delayed for 20 minutes after officials opened envelopes on Monday and realized that question papers were not enough.
About ten Geography question papers and 27 Christian Religious Education examination papers were missing on the first day.
Mr. Justin said after the national examinations officers in Juba were notified and they permitted Torit officials to photocopy the question papers to fill the shortage.
The Chief said other challenges in the examinations included wrong labelling of envelopes and mixing of papers of different subjects in the same envelopes.
He foresees similar errors in the up coming senior four examinations in December.
Mr. Justin explained that more English question papers were sent to Torit centre while majority of the candidates sit their examinations in Arabic language.
He said only 11 candidates use English language compared to 127 candidates who use Arabic language.
Mr. Justin said Torit Day Examinations Centre has 101 candidates sitting arts and 37 for science subjects.
The South Sudan Secondary School Certificate examinations end on May 4.
