The Japan International Cooperation Agency or JICA is planning to run three projects in Juba following the visit of its president last week to the country.
JICA President, Akhihiko Tanaka told the press that the Japanese government through JICA is willing and ready to support the government and people of South Sudan, Radio Bakhita reported.He said JICA plans to implement three projects including urban water expansion, construction of new bridge on the River Nile and modernization of River Port.
Mr Tanaka added that the projects will cost a total amount of 450 million US dollars and shall commence soon after the tendering process is completed later this year.
The President said JICA is conducting a design study for the rehabilitation of more bridges in Juba and planning to construct a new by-pass connecting the new bridge to be constructed to Juba town.
He said similar study is also ongoing in Malakal.
Mr Tanaka added that JICA is also looking forward to engage in the agricultural sector, but that it is waiting for the master plan from the Agriculture ministry.
Mr Tanaka visited the country to show commitment and support the development of the new country.
