TERMITES INVADE KATIKO HOSPITAL

Torit-Katiko referral Hospital constructed seven years ago in Kapoeta South County of Eastern Equatoria state has been overtaken by termites and in the state of collapsing.

SPLM Deputy Secretary-General, Ann Itto on her visit to the facility on Saturday pitied the miserable state of the multi-million US dollars investment and described it as “wasted resources”, Radio Emmanuel reported.

She expressed disappointment over the poor planning of the health facility.

Dr Itto said the far location of the facility from Kapoeta town, its isolation from the community and poor construction materials are big concerns.

The SPLM Deputy Secretary-General demands that the people responsible be punished for the mistakes committed for wasting resources.

Katiko is one of the ten Hospitals Normeca AS, Norwegian company constructed in each state of South Sudan to improve the health situation of the people of South Sudan.

At the time of hand over, Katiko hospital and five mobile clinics that cost 18 million Euros was termed one of the best equipped hospitals in Central Africa.

Other facilities included 160 beds accommodation for hospital staff and transport, an electronic patient journal system, computers, printers, identification card system and a server with 400 G memory.

Normeca AS expected the life span of the prefabricated buildings facility to be at least 30 to 50 years.
