The Kakwa community of Yei River County in Central Equatoria state condemned the arbitrary arrest of its five chiefs, community leader and a retired politician last week without charges.

Kakwa Community Chairman in Juba, Paul Yoane Bonju, on Monday strongly condemned the security organs for arresting old men for seven days now without charging them, Radio Bakhita reported.

He called on the Governor of Central Equatoria state, Clement Wani Konga to order the release of the detainees without condition.

Mr Bonju explained that the Kakwa communities from neighbouring Uganda, DR Congo and South Sudan share cultural practices and not political affiliations.

HeÊ regretted that chiefs are arrested without charges because they are illiterate and have little to offer.

Mr Bonju said chiefs deserve the highest community and Governments respect because they contribute to the building of the society.

The Community is refuting the statement of the Commissioner of Yei River County, David Juba Augustine that the authorities have arrested suspects supporting M 23 rebels of DR Congo.

The community demands the commissioner’s immunity be waved and be investigated over the allegations against the chiefs.
