A group of over 30 children from Lorema are reported to have walked a distance of over 33 kilometres to Chukudum and Nagishot for safety after their village was rocked by armed violence between the army and armed civilians.
Radio Emmanuel learnt that the children escaped from the violent Tuesday clash that claimed five lives of civilians and security forces in Lorema, Budi County of Eastern Equatoria state.According to the report, people abandoned their homes in Lorema and Kikilai villages, taking refuge in the surrounding hills after the violent confrontation.
Some parents separated from their children and families continue searching for missing members.
Among the dead was a nurse working at a health centre belonging to the catholic diocese of Torit in Lorema.
A child and two women who were inside the clinic at the time of the clash got bullet wounds as soldiers targeted the health post for no apparent reason.
