Women, civil society organizations and other actors were urged to engage and participate in South Sudan’s constitutional review process.
Women and civil society organizations representatives took part in an advocacy and strategic workshop at Juba Civic Engagement Centre on Thursday.Civil society commissioner Marakaje Lorna told the participants to ensure that citizens understood their own Constitution.
She said the Constitution review process was much politicized and women and other civil society groups should engage on it.
Voice for Change executive director Lona James Elia said the purpose of the training was to ensure that civil society organizations working on the constitutional review process learned from each other.
She added that the onset of the rainy season was adding on to the difficulties to consult the communities on the Constitution review process
Beny Gideon Mabor from South Sudan Human Rights for Advocacy noted that citizens were less informed on their rights in making the Constitution.
He appealed to the government to improve the security in the country so to allow civil society organizations to extend awareness campaigns to the community.
