Western Equatoria Education Minister accepted that St Mary Primary School reopened on Monday in Yambio after he ordered its closure following a pupils’ strike on Wednesday.
A delegation from St Mary’s Parents and Teachers Association or PTA visited Minister Pia Philip Michael and the Acting Director General for Education Hakim Dabi to request the re-opening of the school, Radio Anisa reported.Mr Pia said State Governor Bangasi Joseph Bakosoro in several occasions insisted that strikes were not allowed in any institution in the state.
The Minister warned that any school that goes on strike is automatically closed and the instigators will face prison.
PTA member Mbembe Paisayo told the Minister that association condemned the incident.
He admitted that the procedures taken by the administration to dismiss the teacher were not regular and blamed the teacher for reacting immaturely.
Mr Paisayo said the ring leader of the strike should be punished administratively.
On Wednesday, a teacher instigated the pupils to go on strike after receiving his job termination letter from the diocesan education head office for improper behaviour with female pupils.
