A Norwegian diplomat told journalists that free media was key for an inclusive and democratic society that respected human rights.
Norway’s Foreign Affairs Ministry Deputy Director General Elisabeth Jacobsen said having a free media in a country was important to respect human rights.She added that Norway supported formation of journalists and the role of free media to foster human rights.
Ms Jacobsen said journalists should work hard and be the best to build South Sudan.
She said she was happy to see one woman journalist among the group because they are likely to ask women their views on public issues.
The diplomat was speaking to journalists attending a three-day workshop in Juba, organized by AMDISS, the Association for Media Development in South Sudan, and UNMISSES, The United Nations Mission in South Sudan.
The workshop ended on Friday evening.
