St Kizito Parish in Munuki-Juba started a children parliament programme for kids to express views and ideas on identity and development.
Daughters of Mary Immaculate coordinator Mourin Suba told Bakhita Radio that the children parliament is composed of 25 to 30 members that meet once a week. They include the president, vice-president, secretary and ministers.She said the parliament deals with children’s development in the same way national assembly debates national issues.
The Indian nun added that the programme initiated at St Kizito parish could extend to all the parishes of the archdiocese of Juba.
UNICEF chief of children programme in South Sudan Fatuma Ibrahim praised the Indian nuns for introducing the children parliament for kids to come together and share their experiences.
She said she was very happy to see that Daughter of Mary Immaculate encouraging children to go to school with equal numbers of boys and girls.
Ms Ibrahim added that through the parliament children could voice what made them happy and what didn’t.
Archbishop Paulino Lokudu Loro of Juba said it was very important that children voiced for their age mates who are suffering in South Sudan.
