The Government is the main violator of human rights in South Sudan, and the media should advocate for a society that respects the rights of all.
Juba Monitor Chief Editor Alfred Taban Lo Gune told journalists that his rights were violated about a month and a half ago when he was put in jail for two hours for publishing a contentious opinion piece in his newspaper.Mr Taban said national media advocate AMDISS or Association for Media Development in South Sudan will work to educate citizens to respect the rights of everybody, including enemies, to bring peace.
Mr Taban was speaking in Juba on Wednesday during the opening of the three-day workshop for journalists under the theme “Promotion and protection of human rights in the media coverage in South Sudan.”
