A bookseller said South Sudanese generally love reading books but they often come last in their lists of priorities due to money issues.

Juba’s Aguet Bookshop Managing Director Piath Mangar Mamur told CRN that people who read books are normally professionals because the working class cannot afford them.

She said she was surprise to find out that South Sudanese actually are fond of books.

Ms Mangar, who hails from Lakes State, explained that the books in her store are expensive because she buys them at high prices from suppliers and she has to pay heavy taxes to keep the bookshop open.

She added that she does not want to make a profit this year, just run the shop.

The bookseller asked the government to clip some taxes because her business does not earn quick money.

Ms Mangar encouraged South Sudanese to read books to get knowledge and inspiration in order to take the nation forward.
