The priests of the Catholic Diocese of Torit met on Tuesday to choose a diocesan administrator following the untimely death of Bishop Akio Johnson Mutek on Monday at a hospital in Nairobi.
The Torit clergy issued a statement saying they chose Chancellor Dario Akim to be the diocesan administrator aided by a team of six advisors.Fr Akim will govern the diocese until the Vatican appoints a new bishop or apostolic administrator to Torit Diocese.
In a related development, Fr Akim announced that the body of Bishop Akio will arrive in Juba International Airport on Thursday at 10:30 AM. The body will be flown to Torit for burial after a requiem mass at St Theresa’s Cathedral in Kator, at 11.00 AM.
